Yoga Classes on Historic USS Yorktown: A Unique Blend of Fitness and Philanthropy in Mount Pleasant

Yoga on the USS Yorktown: A Special Experience Awaits in Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant, S.C. is gearing up for a unique and rewarding experience with the upcoming yoga classes being hosted on the flight deck of the historic USS Yorktown. Designed to combine fitness with philanthropy, these sessions promise to give local residents an opportunity to stretch their bodies while also bending some rules for a good cause.

Two Opportunities to Join In

The USS Yorktown Foundation is organizing two yoga classes, which will take place on Wednesday, October 9, at 5:30 p.m., and again on October 30, at 6:30 p.m. Each session offers a distinct chance to practice yoga amid stunning views and a rich historical backdrop.

A Purpose Beyond Just Yoga

Meaghan Silsby, the executive director of the USS Yorktown Foundation, shared her excitement about the upcoming events. She stated, “The Foundation is always seeking unique ways to engage the community and bring people to Patriots Point while advancing our charitable goals.” It’s not just about yoga; participants will also be supporting important educational initiatives as proceeds go directly to the foundation’s scholarship programs.

The foundation has successfully provided over 6,000 scholarships to students across South Carolina, helping them engage in educational programs aboard the USS Yorktown. This initiative plays a vital role in enhancing the experience for students and allowing them to learn history in a most memorable setting.

A Partnership That Inspires

Erica Lindquist, the owner of Lowcountry Yoga, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership with the USS Yorktown Foundation. “We’re excited to bring yoga to such an iconic Charleston landmark. Practicing on the USS Yorktown is a unique experience, and we’re honored to be part of an event that supports such an important cause,” she said, highlighting how special this venue is for yoga practice.

What to Expect

Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats and enjoy an hour of relaxation and mindfulness while overlooking the water and surrounded by history. The classes are a great way to unwind after a long day while also meeting new people within the community.

Registration for each class is $25, which goes towards supporting the foundation’s educational programming. Given the high interest in this unique blend of fitness and philanthropy, those eager to participate are encouraged to sign up promptly to secure their spot.

Supporting Education and Preservation

The USS Yorktown Foundation does more than just offer yoga classes; they also play a crucial role in funding new and enhanced exhibits across the USS Yorktown, USS Laffey, and the Vietnam Experience. With a mission focused on education and preservation, every participation counts in propelling these important causes forward.

Join the Movement

If you’re in Mount Pleasant and looking for an opportunity to engage with the community while also taking care of your wellbeing, then yoga on the USS Yorktown is the perfect event for you. It’s not every day you can stretch your body on a historical flight deck while supporting education for students across South Carolina!

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to do something good for yourself and for others! Grab your mat and make your way to Patriots Point on those special October evenings.
