A roadway in North Charleston, South Carolina, has been reopened, following a train-pedestrian incident that occurred Sunday afternoon. The North Charleston Police Department confirmed that all of Ashley Phosphate Road is now operational after the accident that resulted in injuries.
The pedestrian involved in the accident sustained injuries, however, at the moment, there are no known fatalities. This was confirmed by Harve Jacobs, the police spokesman, who was on the scene. The injured individual has been taken to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.
The incident led to the temporary closure of Ashley Phosphate Road but, according to North Charleston police, the road was later reopened. The closure was necessary to allow emergency responders and investigators to access the scene and ensure the safety of other road users.
The circumstances around the accident are still under investigation. Police are working closely with the train company representatives, witnesses, and on-site evidence to understand the chain of events leading up to the accident. Further details are expected to be available once the investigation is complete.
In response to the accident, local authorities are urging residents and guests in the area to exercise heightened caution while driving, walking, or cycling near train tracks.
