CHARLESTON, S.C. — Specialty grocery chain Trader Joe’s is making its mark in the Lowcountry by launching its second store in the Charleston area. The new retail location now has a confirmed location at Sweetgrass Corner, a strategic spot nestled between North Highway 17 and Hungry Neck Boulevard.
The burgeoning retail site, situated at 1909 North Highway 17, offers easy access due to its proximity to the Isle of Palms Connector and I-526. This will be the second Trader Joe’s store in the Charleston vicinity, further bolstering its presence in the local grocery market.
Trader Joe’s Sweetgrass Corner location will occupy a portion of the previously owned BI-LO grocery store building, the lease for which Trader Joe’s signed in the spring of 2022. The leftover space from the old grocery store facility is set to be taken up by two other tenants.
Continental Realty Corporation (CRC), the owner of the retail facility, perceives this new store as an asset for the surrounding communities. The CRC Chief Operating Officer, David Donato, expressed his excitement stating “Trader Joe’s is a best-in-class anchor tenant, and we are thrilled to have them at Sweetgrass Corner.”
He further accentuated, “It is a testament to the demographic profile and business environment of the Town of Mt. Pleasant that a second Trader Joe’s store is warranted here. We look forward to the positive impacts Trader Joe’s will have on the in-line tenants who have been without an anchor tenant for so long.”
Though this announcement has created a buzz in Charleston, officials have kept the timeline pertaining to the opening date under wraps. The completion schedule and operational start remain a mystery, sparking anticipation among potential customers and benefiting retailers around the said region.
Given Trader Joe’s reputation for offering a distinct and diverse selection of high-quality products at competitive prices, the impending store launch is predicted to positively impact the local community and co-retailers.
