Exciting Weekend Awaits in Summerville and Beyond

As the summer heat begins to fade and those crisp autumn breezes start flowing through the Lowcountry, it’s time to mark your calendars for a weekend of fantastic community events! If you’re in Summerville this weekend, there’s a lot in store for you and your family.

Sweet Tea Festival: A Local Favorite

On Saturday, September 21, Summerville will be buzzing with excitement as the town hosts its highly anticipated 10th annual Sweet Tea Festival. This beloved festival is set to run from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the heart of downtown at Hutchinson Square, located at 102 S. Main St..

The festival promises to transform this historic square into a lively street fair, featuring the “Sweetest Farmers Market” with over 70 local vendors. You’ll find a variety of mouth-watering food trucks, artisans showcasing their crafts, and of course, the highlight of the festival—a sweet tea competition! Festival-goers will have the opportunity to sample and vote for their favorite sweet tea, with winners announced to wrap up the celebration. Plus, did we mention it’s free entry? This is a perfect outing for the whole family!

Southern Songwriters Festival

Before you head to the Sweet Tea Festival, make sure to check out the Southern Songwriters Festival. Kicking off on Thursday, September 19, at Songwriter Alley, 143 Central Ave., Summerville, this festival is all about celebrating local talent. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., enjoy a showcase of both new and established songwriters over the course of the weekend.

With performances scheduled every hour and a special full-band set from Forty Mile Detour Saturday afternoon on the Hutchinson Square Stage, this is an event not to be missed! The outdoor shows are free to attend, and for just $15, you can enjoy an intimate performance at the Public Works Arts Listening Room, but tickets are limited. Sounds fantastic, right?

Join the Fun at Crowfield Bash

If you’re looking for more family-friendly fun, head over to Goose Creek for the 2024 Crowfield Bash on September 21, held at Middleton Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event combines activities like obstacle courses and horseback riding with a thrilling car and motorcycle show. Bring the kids, challenge them to some fun activities, and savor delicious offerings from local food trucks.

With raffle prizes every hour, music from DJ Chuck, and a trophy ceremony for the best vehicles, there’s plenty to enjoy! And again, this is also a free event—what a deal!

Celebrating Pride

While you’re in the area, don’t miss the Charleston Pride Festival at The Refinery on September 21, from noon to 6 p.m. This vibrant festival is an amazing way to support the local LGBTQ+ community while enjoying live music, including DJ Trevor D and performances by drag artists. With local food trucks and artisan vendors, this celebration adds another layer of excitement to your weekend. Plus, VIP passes are available for those looking for a special experience!

Beauti-Fall Festival at Magnolia Gardens

For a serene dose of nature, consider making a trip to the Magnolia Beauti-Fall Festival on the same day, taking place from noon until 4 p.m. at 3550 Ashley River Road, Charleston. Enjoy the stunning sights of seasonal floral displays, live music, craft beer, and fun activities for the kids, such as mini pumpkin-painting and face-painting. Just a little reminder to pack some sunscreen and beat those pesky bugs!
