North Carolina based Summit Coffee chain to open three locations in Charleston

Summit Coffee, a coffee chain originating from North Carolina, with 13 cafes currently around the Southeast, has plans to further expand its operations to the Charleston market in 2024. The environmentally conscious coffee company intends to launch three new cafes in Charleston, serving its organic coffee blends and freshly baked pastries.

The expansion will see two cafes opening in Mount Pleasant and one in Summerville. Besides serving its organic, rotating selection of seasonal blends and fresh pastries, these locations will also reflect Summit Coffee’s commitment to sustainability and nurturing global coffee farming communities.

A Brief History of Summit Coffee

Summit Coffee was founded in 1998 in Davidson, North Carolina. Over the years, the chain has earned recognition for its sustainable approach to coffee. The company’s philosophy starts with the coffee farmers across the globe, ensuring that each coffee blend is farmed sustainably and roasted in small batches to guarantee optimal flavor.

Commitment to Sustainability

Summit Coffee, as a company, is a dedicated member of 1% for the Planet initiative and is Certified Climate Neutral. Besides its sustainable coffee sourcing and roasting methods, the company also implements sustainability initiatives and programs in its cafes, providing avenues for customers to minimize their environmental footprint.

CEO of Summit Coffee, Brian Helfrich stated, “The ethos of Summit Coffee is centered around providing coffee and community to the surrounding neighborhoods, and Charleston is a perfect place for those values.” The company looks forward to creating welcoming spaces for quality coffee and fresh pastries in Charleston while making positive contributions to the environment.

The Planned Expansions

Summit Coffee has planned to open its first cafe on Belle Station Road in Mount Pleasant in the Spring of 2024. This location will also be the home of Summit’s bakery, supplying pastries and other food items to its cafes in the area. The second cafe in Mount Pleasant and another in Nexton will follow the opening of the Belle Station Road cafe.

The opening of these new locations will serve as a way to bring Summit Coffee’s unique blend of sustainability-driven coffee practices and community-focused ethos to the Charleston market. As the coffee chain continues its expansion, it is expected to continue fostering its commitment to both the local and global community.
