Sponsor Our ArticlesStewarts has announced leadership changes in its Personal Injury Department, appointing Charles Edwards as the new Head. This transition follows Dan Herman’s retirement after 25 years of service. Recognized for his expertise and client relations, Edwards aims to enhance the firm’s innovative approach to personal injury law while maintaining high standards. Stewarts continues to be acknowledged for its excellence in legal services, making significant strides in high-stakes personal injury cases.
Stewarts, a prominent law firm known for its expertise in personal injury law, has revealed significant changes in its leadership team set to take effect from May 1, 2026. Charles Edwards, a partner with nearly two decades of experience at the firm, will assume the role of Head of Personal Injury following the retirement of current department head, Dan Herman.
Dan Herman has been an integral part of Stewarts for 25 years, leading the Personal Injury department with a vision for delivering outstanding client service. As he prepares for retirement, Herman will continue his affiliation with the firm for the next 14 months to ensure a stable transition process. His commitment to the firm demonstrates a dedication to maintaining the high standards that characterize Stewarts.
Charles Edwards joined Stewarts in 2003 and has since established himself as a key figure in the realm of high-value and complex personal injury claims. His accolades include being recognized in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame for his superior client relations and excellent judgment. Throughout his tenure, Edwards has recovered over £200 million for his clients, showcasing his proficiency in navigating intricate legal landscapes and advocating relentlessly for their rights.
Edwards’ leadership style is driven by his prioritization of transparency in litigation, as well as fostering collaboration between parties involved. This innovative approach includes developing comprehensive case-handling protocols in consultation with major insurance companies, which enhances the overall effectiveness of his team’s efforts.
The work done by Stewarts’ Personal Injury team is noteworthy not only for its high success rates but also for its unique approach to client service. With a focus on catastrophic injuries, the team has gained a reputation for being industry leaders and exceeding client expectations over many years. Edwards expressed enthusiasm about leading the department, confirming his desire to continue making a tangible difference for clients coping with life-altering injuries.
One of the firm’s recent noteworthy cases involved Daniel, a young amateur boxer who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a taxi accident. The driver responsible fled the scene but was later caught and convicted. The Motor Insurer’s Bureau accepted full liability for Daniel’s injuries, allowing for crucial funding necessary for rehabilitation services. Edwards and his team facilitated an initial award of £55,000 in interim payments, providing Daniel’s family with immediate support as they navigated the aftermath of the accident.
In a concerted effort to secure Daniel’s future needs, a joint settlement meeting led to an impressive seven-figure lump sum settlement that was approved by the court, ensuring his long-term care and assistance.
Stewarts has consistently been recognized for excellence in law, being listed among the best law firms for business and private client services for the seventh year running. Notable achievements this year include significant case wins in various practice areas, particularly in personal injury and clinical negligence. The practice is currently recognized among the top three in England and Wales for these fields.
In addition to the leadership changes within the personal injury team, Anita Jewitt has been appointed as the new Head of Clinical Negligence. She will lead a dedicated team of ten partners and 19 lawyers, ensuring the firm continues to provide exemplary legal services.
Upcoming events, such as discussions led by partners, highlight the firm’s commitment to education and outreach. These sessions, like the one hosted by Nichola Fosler on orthotics, show Stewarts’ dedication to advancing knowledge in related fields critical to personal injury cases.
As Stewarts gears up for new leadership and initiatives, its renowned personal injury team remains poised to tackle high-stakes cases and advocate passionately for those in need, reinforcing its position as a trailblazer in the legal landscape.
