Spicewalla Opens New Spice Shop in Charleston

Spicewalla, a New Spice Shop, Debuts at Charleston

A new addition to Charleston’s vibrant culinary scene is Spicewalla, a unique spice brand hailing from award-winning chef Meherwan Irani’s kitchen at Chai Pani. Known for its high-quality and distinct spices and blends, the brand recently marked a milestone by opening a shop at 49 John Street in Charleston, South Carolina.

About the Spicewalla Brand

Originating from the popular Chai Pani Indian restaurants in Asheville, Charlotte, and Atlanta, Spicewalla is the brainchild of founder Meherwan Irani. His brand prides itself on providing single spices like cumin and cardamom as well as special blends including chai masala, Korean barbecue rub, Chesapeake seafood seasoning, and unique mixes like chicken wing rubs from rapper T-Pain.

Before reaching Charleston, Spicewalla spices were packaged in brightly colored tins in Asheville, North Carolina, and shipped throughout the country. However, the launch of the new location marks the brand’s debut outside of Asheville, making it possible for Charleston locals and tourists alike to experience Spicewalla firsthand.

Spicewalla’s Arrival in Charleston

Open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Spicewalla invites visitors to discover an array of spices and to even inquire about their unique qualities and uses. In addition to offering spices and spice blends, the shop also aims to serve as a resource center where both professional chefs and amateur cooks can share their interest in the culinary world.

On the opening of the Charleston location, Meherwan Irani shared, “Charleston is one of my favorite cities and reminds me a lot of Asheville with its diverse culinary community, food-obsessed locals, and vibrant tourism.” He further expressed his optimism in Spicewalla connecting with customers on all the senses.

Uncertain Expansions

Although the Spicewalla brand has clearly outlined its current presence, details regarding future expansion plans of the brand are yet uncertain. As the second retail outlet after Asheville, whether this expansion in Charleston signals the beginning of a nationwide rollout of Spicewalla stores remains a topic of speculation among industry stakeholders.

Section Summaries

The addition of Spicewalla to Charleston’s food scene signifies a win for culinary enthusiasts and professionals alike, who now have access to a wide array of unique spices and blends. Founded by award-winning chef Meherwan Irani, the brand invites both amateurs and professionals to explore and learn more about the world of spices.
