The North Charleston Police Department has released new details regarding the shots fired near North Charleston High School over the weekend. According to the police report obtained by News 4, the incident occurred during the annual Slam Fest event on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
Six off-duty officers were present at the event when a fight erupted on the left side of the gym near the top. The officers immediately responded after hearing reports of a possible firearm on the scene, although they did not initially hear a gunshot during the altercation.
Following the initial disturbance, a suspect outside the school gate discharged a firearm, prompting chaos as individuals rushed back inside the school for safety. As officers searched for the shooter, multiple fights broke out among the crowd, leading to further arrests.
The report indicates that officers detained several juveniles involved in the altercations, some of whom were found in possession of firearms. Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in the operation by placing five juveniles in off-duty officers’ vehicles for further processing.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, and anyone with information is urged to come forward to aid in resolving the matter.
