SC Gas Prices See Slight Decline Over the Past Week

In a pleasing turn of events for South Carolina drivers, a minor decline in gas prices over the past week was observed. According to a survey by GasBuddy, which covered more than 3,000 gas stations across the state, Palmetto State’s average gas prices dropped by 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week, recording an average of $3.16 per gallon.

A Comparison of Current and Previous Gas Prices

The recorded prices indicate an 8 cents per gallon decrease compared to last month, while it is 2 cents higher compared to the same period last year. It was also reported that as of Monday morning, the costliest gas station in the state sold fuel at $3.79 per gallon, while the cheapest fuel station priced it at $2.85 per gallon, marking a 94 cents per gallon variation.

In the Tri-County area, a station in North Charleston boasted of the cheapest gas, selling it for $2.89 per gallon, as reported on Monday morning.

National Average Gas Prices Experience a Fall

On a national level, the falling trend of gas prices continues with a 3.5 cents drop over the week, setting the average at $3.55 per gallon. A 12 cents per gallon reduction compared to a month ago is noticeable, while the current average stands 2.2 cents higher than last year.

Positive Predictions for Motorists

“The news continues to be good for motorists ahead of Memorial Day, with gasoline prices again falling, marking it the fourth consecutive week of declines for the national average as we edge closer to the start of the summer driving season,” said Patrick De Haan, the Head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy.

De Haan further added, “The good news doesn’t end there. GasBuddy predicts mostly good news for motorists for the rest of the summer in their Summer Travel Forecast, which will be out tomorrow. They predict that gas prices over the next few months will stay substantially below record levels and should continue to trend lower as we head towards July 4. However, factors such as the situation in the Middle East, hurricane season, refinery maintenance, and unpredictable disruptions, or weather events remain as wildcards.”

National Diesel Prices

The national average diesel price also witnessed a fall of 3.3 cents, bringing the average price per gallon to $3.86.
