The city of Saginaw is abuzz as Dr. David L. Stockman, a local dermatopathologist, faces significant legal challenges after his recent bankruptcy filing. He owes approximately $150,000 to TIAA and has missed several court appearances, resulting in a bench warrant. Dr. Stockman’s financial woes have led to multiple default judgments against him, including significant amounts owed to creditors for unpaid services. As community members keep a close watch, legal proceedings continue, with court dates scheduled to unveil more details about his troubled business.
The city of Saginaw is buzzing with chatter as local dermatopathologist Dr. David L. Stockman finds himself amidst a whirlwind of legal troubles tied to his recent bankruptcy filing. The situation gained traction as Dr. Stockman was slated to appear in Saginaw County Business Court for a debtor discovery examination, revealing he owes about $150,000 to TIAA, a federal savings bank. However, he didn’t show up, as his attention was diverted to South Carolina, where he was filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on behalf of his company, Specialized Pathology Partners (SPP).
This wasn’t the first time Dr. Stockman missed court appearances. His absence on March 28, 2025, was just the latest in a series of no-shows, including missed dates in March 2024 and January 2025. As a result of these missed appearances, a bench warrant has been issued for him. Adding to the mystery, the last recorded address for SPP was located in Saginaw Township; however, the recent bankruptcy filing lists a Fairfield Inn & Suites in Charleston, South Carolina, as its location. An interesting note is that to file for bankruptcy in South Carolina, Dr. Stockman needed to reside there for at least 91 of the last 180 days.
SPP, unfortunately, saw its last days in May 2024 when it was officially dissolved, with Dr. Stockman holding multiple positions like president, director, treasurer, and secretary of the corporation. In August 2023, Saginaw Judge M. Randall Jurrens issued a default judgment against Dr. Stockman and SPP, directing them to pay TIAA over $122,292, with Dr. Stockman personally owing an additional $12,610 and nearly $7,000 in costs and attorney fees. Shockingly, there’s been no repayment or return of the leased ultrasound and radiology equipment to TIAA since the judgment.
But that’s not all. In August 2024, another default judgment was handed down against him for almost $132,000 to Wildfire Credit Union. Furthermore, Dr. Stockman was also found responsible for about $55,000 in payments owed to Dr. Donald Higgs for bounced checks related to work performed at the Michigan Institute of Forensic Science & Medicine (MIFSM). Documented reports indicate that Dr. Higgs has resorted to garnishments to collect payments, prompting local prosecutors to involve a special prosecutor for evaluation.
There’s been no criminal charges laid against Dr. Stockman for these financial misadventures; however, things are still heating up with a court appearance scheduled for April 7, 2025. He is being sued by Dr. Russell L. Bush over contractual disputes and an alleged unauthorized termination. An arbitrator recently found that Dr. Stockman owed Dr. Bush a whopping $551,800 for wrongful termination. To make matters worse, he’s fallen behind on $3,560 in court-ordered sanctions and attorney fees.
Dr. Stockman’s legal entanglements do not end there. In 2023, two other doctors, Dr. Robert Odze and Dr. Kishore L. Jayakumar, also filed lawsuits against him for unpaid services, adding additional stress to his already troubled financial situation. On the bright side, despite these hurdles, Dr. Stockman’s medical licenses remain active, and they are not set to expire until September 8, 2025.
With the court dates and numerous lawsuits at stake, the community is left wondering how this intricate web of legal and financial drama will unfold. Saginaw residents are certainly keeping a watchful eye on the developments surrounding Dr. Stockman and his once-thriving business.
