Roper St. Francis to Receive $8 Million in Federal Funding for Enhanced Healthcare Access
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Renowned healthcare provider, Roper St. Francis, is to receive a significant subtotal of $8 million from federal reserves. This allocation forms part of the second fiscal year 2024 spending package in an effort to improve healthcare accessibility for those in North Charleston and the broader region.
The funding announcements came from the office of Sen. Lindsey Graham on March 23, outlining the various beneficiaries of the spending package. Graham, who also serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee, streamlined the financial requests to the committee.
Bolstering Health Services
Providing a comprehensive view of the intended use of the funds, Graham’s office revealed that the $8 million allocation will aid Roper St. Francis in improving its healthcare access provisions. The importance of accessible healthcare across all regions of the state, as well as the accompanying beneficiaries of this funding project, were also highlighted.
Package Recipients
The expansive spending package features diverse recipients scattered throughout South Carolina, in various sectors and services. Among them, Clafin University has been assigned $3.6 million to facilitate a noteworthy expansion of their nursing program. In contrast, the Colleton County allocation sits at $637,195, set to be used for establishing an emergency operations center.
MUSC Health, situated in Orangeburg, is to receive $4.3 million targeted towards cancer treatment improvements, a vital area in public health where continuous advancements can make a significant difference. Moreover, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division is to be incorporated in the funding process, with $7 million directed towards the State Emergency Operations Center.
Lastly, the University of South Carolina has been granted $3.01 million to help instigate a much-needed expansion for the university’s nursing program. As with the similar initiative at Clafin University, it is anticipated that this funding will help create a new generation of medical professionals.
