College of Charleston junior first baseman Cole Mathis has been named the CAA Player of the Week after an outstanding performance in a series win over Campbell. Mathis becomes the fifth different Cougar and the first position player to receive a weekly honor from the CAA this season.
Mathis excelled at the plate, reaching base in 14 of 17 plate appearances. He recorded 11 hits and three walks, while also hitting three home runs, scoring seven runs, and driving in 10 runs as the Cougars secured two victories out of three games against the Camels.
Mathis’ performance on Saturday was particularly noteworthy, as he set career highs with five hits, including two home runs, and claimed seven RBI in a resounding 17-2 victory. This marked his second two-homer game in the past three weeks, coming within two runs of the school record for most RBI in a single game.
With his strong weekend showing, Mathis has taken over the team lead with 11 home runs and 41 RBI on the season. Additionally, he boosted his batting average by 50 points to an even .300, showcasing his consistent offensive prowess throughout the series against Campbell.
This honor adds to Mathis’ growing list of accolades this season, further solidifying his impact on the College of Charleston baseball team. His standout performance against Campbell not only contributed to the team’s success over the weekend but also earned him well-deserved recognition from the CAA.
As Mathis continues to showcase his offensive abilities and play a pivotal role for the Cougars, fans and teammates alike can look forward to more stellar performances from the junior first baseman as the season progresses.
