Avery Neaves has been named the CAA Player of the Week following one of the top two-game performances in College of Charleston history. The Cougars have had consecutive players of the week after Cole Mathis won the award last week. Charleston also has three pitchers and one rookie of the week honor this year.
Neaves went 8-for-8 with all eight of his hits going for extra bases as the Cougars took a pair of games from Towson last weekend. The graduate transfer outfielder had three doubles, two triples, and three home runs, scored eight runs, and drove in five against the Tigers. He also walked twice and was hit by a pitch, putting him on base in all 11 plate appearances.
Since being inserted into the leadoff spot four games ago, Neaves is 12-for-16 with 16 runs scored and five RBIs. The hot stretch raised his average to .344, second on the team, and he ranks second in the CAA and 19th nationally with 19 doubles. He also leads the team with 12 homers, 50 runs scored, a .720 slugging percentage, and 38 walks.
Neaves’ performance not only earned him the CAA Player of the Week honor but also solidified his position as a key player for the Cougars. His ability to get on base consistently and produce extra-base hits has been instrumental in Charleston’s success this season.
Charleston’s strong showing in recent games, highlighted by Neaves’ stellar performance, bodes well for the team as they continue their pursuit of victories in the competitive CAA conference. With players like Neaves leading the charge, the Cougars are poised for further success on the field.
As the season progresses, Charleston will rely on players like Neaves to continue delivering standout performances and leading the team to victory. With the momentum from their recent wins, the Cougars are determined to make a strong push towards the postseason and compete for conference honors.
Neaves’ recognition as the CAA Player of the Week is a testament to his hard work and dedication on the field. His remarkable performance serves as inspiration for his teammates and a point of pride for the College of Charleston athletics program.
As the College of Charleston celebrates Neaves’ impressive achievement, the team looks forward to future success and the continued contributions of standout players like him. With the support of fans and the dedication of its athletes, the Cougars aim to make their mark on the college baseball scene and showcase their talent on a national stage.
