In an interesting fusion of complementary industries, Charleston’s Rewined Candles has launched a limited-edition candle series developed with the expertise of top-level sommeliers. The well-established local business, renowned for its creation of handmade candles within recycled wine bottles, has added new fragrances to its lineup, formed from the sensory feedback of wine experts.
Pioneering an innovative collaboration, Rewined invited sommeliers from various establishments to lend their olfactory skills towards creating a unique selection of candles. Each candle in the four-piece collection encapsulates the fragrance notes of the sommelier’s favorite wine style, creating a sensory experience that bridges the worlds of viticulture and artisanal candles.
Bethany Heinze from Vern’s was behind the creation of a candle inspired by orange wine, heavily scented with notes of blood orange, dried apricot, chamomile, and aromatic herbs. Matthew Conway of The Tippling House developed a candle that captures the essence of syrah wine, hinting at plum, blackberry, peppercorn, and oakwood. The sommelier collection will also present candles representing other wine varieties like gamay and nebbiolo.
