PechaKucha 45 in Charleston slated for April 10 launch
The 45th iteration of PechaKucha, a fast-paced showcase of inspirations, hopes, and dreams of creatives from the Charleston area, is set to take off on April 10 at the Charleston Music Hall. It will feature eight different presenters, offering unique introspections into their careers, aspirations, and creative journeys.
About PechaKucha and its Charleston Connection
Originally coined in Tokyo in 2003, PechaKucha, translated loosely as “chit-chat,” was developed by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham to create a streamlined format for sharing deep insights through spoken word and visual representations. The format, now in its 16th year in Charleston, has been adopted in more than 1,000 cities globally, with approximately 100 events each month.
Format of the Presentation
Characterized by a rapid pace, each PechaKucha presentation involves 20 slides shown for precisely 20 seconds each, culminating in a compelling, 400-second narration. This approach means that each presenter gets six minutes and 40 seconds to convey their stories, resulting in an intellectually and artistically invigorating experience for both the audience and speakers.

The upcoming PechaKucha Charleston will feature eight artistic stalwarts from various creative fields. Among them is Los Angeles-based artist and Charleston native, Kevin Taylor, lauded by Terry Fox, the event organizer for his exceptional talent. Kevin also designed the uniquely impressive poster art for PK45.
The other presenters to grace the event are Lynnette White, the director of The Plantation Singers, The V-Tones artist duo Eden Fonvielle and Noodle McDoodle, actor Camille Lowman from the PURE Theatre core ensemble, graphic artist Bruise Wayne, Mike East, president of TTS Studios, and Manny Houston, a multi-threat entertainer.
Details of the Event
The emcee for the evening is Robin Phoenix Johnson, founder of the Best Medicine Brigade and a veteran of PK 42. Providing the musical backdrop for the evening is Professor Ping (Josh Silverman), the event’s longstanding DJ. The show is open to all ages. Tickets can be purchased online for $15 plus fees, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. on April 10 and the show starting promptly at 8 p.m. at Charleston Music Hall.
