In a recent unfortunate clash with criminal activities, the small city of North Charleston, South Carolina is under strife after a string of vehicle break-ins occurred on Monday night. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible.
The sequence of vehicle break-ins transpired during the overnight hours of late Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday morning. The police received multiple reports of incidents including thefts, primarily centered at the 2200 block of Hayne Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, the deputies discovered not one, not two, but as many as ten vehicles that had been tampered with. The entry techniques used by the criminals varied as in some cases, cars were found unlocked and in others, the entry was forced.
The collective loss from the vehicles broken into, as reported by the victims, amounted approximately to $200. At this stage, it’s unclear if the burglars were after cash or if they were scavenging for valuables left in the vehicles.
The timely response of Charleston County Sheriff’s Office saw not only the deputies but also the Criminal Investigations Division and the Forensic Services Unit arrive at the scene for a thorough investigation. The work done by these personnel will be crucial in tracing and capturing the suspects. Unfortunately, as of now, the criminals are still at large and the investigation is ongoing.
Though it is alarming that such a crime could occur in a quiet town like North Charleston, it’s important now more than ever that its residents remain calm and cooperative. Charleston County Sherriff’s Office encourages any person with information related to the thefts or about the suspects to come forward and help crack this case. Any leads, however minimal, could be helpful in the investigation and eventually lead to arresting the criminals. The contact number to call for anyone with information is 843-202-1700.
While the law enforcement does everything in their power to ensure the safety and security of the public, it’s equally important that the citizens also do their part in securing their property and reporting any suspicious activities.
