In a shocking turn of events in North Charleston, S.C., one person was wounded in a shooting incident on Saturday afternoon near a middle school parking lot. The North Charleston Police Department initiated an investigation after the victim reported the incident.
The police were alerted to the area around Louise Drive at about 3:30 pm when they received reports of the shooting. Prior to this alert, news of shots heard close to Morningside Middle School on Leeds Avenue had also been relayed to the department. On arriving at the victim’s residence on Louise Drive, the police were informed that the shooting had taken place in the school’s parking lot.
The victim, who was not entirely cooperative with the officials, maintained that the shooting took place near the school parking lot. Although no shell casings were found at the said location, the investigators discovered casings near the intersection of Martha Drive and Peacock Avenue. Moreover, evident signs of the incident such as a bullet hole and some blood were spotted on the driver-side door of the victim’s silver Audi sedan.
With the victim’s consent, the police conducted a safety sweep of his home and came across two guns in a bedroom. The victim was then transported to a local hospital by the EMS for medical attention.
A witness account gave the investigation a new direction. According to the witness, an older model red Kia Sorento was seen chasing the silver Audi before the shooting. The Sorento was later spotted on Leeds Avenue heading towards Dorchester Road. As of now, the police have made no arrests in connection with the shooting.
The North Charleston Police Department has appealed to the public to assist in the investigation by providing any relevant information. Those with knowledge about the incident are urged to contact the North Charleston Police Tip Line at 843-607-2076.
The North Charleston community is reeling from the incident, particularly given its proximity to a middle school. The continued investigation aims not only to bring the perpetrator to justice but also to restore a sense of safety and normalcy to the area.
