In a recent incident in North Charleston, South Carolina, the local police force has managed to apprehend a suspect involved in a critical hit-and-run case.
The unfortunate event occurred in the early hours of Friday morning near the area of Dorchester Road and Leeds Avenue. After reports of the incident reached the police, officers swiftly arrived at the scene. The victim is a 63-year-old male, now in critical condition who was promptly rushed to MUSC.
The perpetrator, who was driving a tan 2009 Honda Accord, fled the scene heading west on Dorchester Road post-collision. However, the police officers were able to retrieve a tag from the suspected vehicle utilizing the city cameras provided by the City of North Charleston.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Mario Gene Williams of North Charleston, was subsequently located by the police at the registered address. Following his capture, Williams was charged with one count of hit-and-run with great bodily injury.
Following his arrest, Williams was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center. A bond has been set at $40,000 for his release.
Based on South Carolina law, a hit-and-run offense with great bodily injury is considered a felony. If convicted, Williams could face severe legal implications including substantial fines, a permanent mark on his criminal record, and potential imprisonment.
