Shots Fired Outside North Charleston High School Slam Fest Basketball Event

Reports of Shots Fired at North Charleston High School

NORTH CHARLESTON—Police received reports of several shots being fired after a fight broke out at a basketball event held at North Charleston High School. North Charleston police responded to the 26th annual Slam Fest Basketball event on May 4 showcasing tri-county high school talent after hearing reports of several fights breaking out, followed by gunfire. Officers heard shots being fired outside the building, according to an incident report provided to The Post and Courier on May 6. No injuries were reported, according to a May 4 statement by police spokesperson Harve Jacobs. Several people were detained, and the investigation is ongoing. No other information was immediately available.

Event Shutdown

The event had to be shut down, an event organizer said on Slam Fest’s public Facebook page. “I am saddened tonight because we don’t do this for anything else but for this community to come together and have a good time,” North Charleston men’s head coach Tony Eady said in a Facebook video.
