North Charleston: A Shocking Halloween Tragedy Unfolds

It was a chilly Halloween morning in North Charleston, but early risers would not have noticed the cool breeze mixing with their costumes and candy. Instead, their attention was drawn to a heartbreaking scene unfolding at the North Charleston Fire Department Station 7 that would leave everyone shaken.

The Start of a Terrible Nightmare

Just after the clock struck 2:30 a.m., firefighters at Station 7 were awakened by a frantic mother, Ta’Shanta Morris, 33, who raced to the fire department seeking help for her infant, who was reportedly not breathing. According to the incident report, it was a chaotic moment with the mother screaming hysterically as firefighters quickly jumped into action.

Life-saving measures began immediately while they awaited EMS to arrive. These brave firefighters were thrust into a scenario no one ever wants to face. When EMS finally got there, they continued the effort to revive the baby and rushed him to a local hospital. Tragically, despite their best efforts, the infant was pronounced dead at 3:18 a.m. on Halloween morning.

Disturbing Discoveries

As authorities began their investigation, medical personnel noticed severe injuries on the child. The report revealed severe bruising on the baby’s head and face, along with deep lacerations and injuries that appeared to be bite marks. This harrowing evidence left many wondering about the circumstances surrounding the infant’s tragic death.

Legal Fallout

Following the incident, police arrested Morris around 9 a.m. on the same day, charging her with six counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. The charges stemmed from reports that Morris had left her other children unattended at home. At a hearing, Magistrate Judge Alvin E. Bligen granted her a surety bond of $15,000 for each charge, totaling $90,000.

Much to the shock of the community, Morris was able to post bail and was released from custody by around 10 p.m. the same day. However, she does not face charges directly related to her infant’s death at this moment as authorities continue to investigate.
