North Charleston, S.C. is buzzing with excitement as developers prepare to kick off construction on an innovative project that promises to reshape the local landscape. Touted as a first-of-its-kind **skyline**, this ambitious endeavor, known as **Uptown at Centre Pointe**, is set to bring a wealth of opportunities and attractions to the area. With a hefty price tag of **$200 million**, it aims to create over **700 jobs** for residents and visitors alike.
RealtyLink, the brains behind the project, indicates that this development has been part of a broader, long-term strategy for **North Charleston**. Lenn Jewel, a principal at RealtyLink, shared some insight into their vision: “We’ve developed the whole thing and it’s been part of a long-term plan in North Charleston to bring more retail and development.” According to Jewel, by the end of the next year, residents can expect to see many new options open for business.
So, what can locals and tourists anticipate from this exciting new development? Well, Uptown will feature an **AC Hotel by Marriott**, along with a luxurious apartment complex boasting **306 units**. Plus, there will be a convenient **seven-story parking garage** and corporate apartments from **WaterWalk by Wyndham**. The culinary scene will also be spruced up with the addition of several new restaurants, including a trendy **CAVA**. Not to mention, a range of retail shops will cater to shoppers looking for something special.
But that’s not all! For those seeking a little adventure, the development will include attractions such as a **K1 Speed** indoor go-karting facility, a **Good Surf venue**, and the **Central Rock Gym** dedicated to rock climbing. It’s safe to say that Uptown will quickly become a hotspot for both residents and visitors.
Interestingly, the property where Uptown is being built has a rich history. Jewel noted, “We bought what is Centre Point, what some refer to as Tanger Outlets, in February 1997. We started developing with Walmart and Sam’s in 2002 and the center grew with **Staples**, **Ashley Furniture**, and just kept going.” This deep-rooted legacy makes the new plans even more exciting for longtime residents.
Local shoppers like **Shakella McDonald** and **Erwin Lopez-Mejia** express their hopes for how this development will improve life in the Lowcountry. McDonald mentioned, “I want it to be bigger”—a sentiment that many in the community share. She also hopes that improved attractions could lead to better traffic flow and less frustration during shopping trips.
Lopez-Mejia added, “More attractions for the kids. I like the **water park** a lot, fun stuff. Something fun for everyone and enjoyable at all ages.” With such engaging activities, families will definitely find more to enjoy together.
While the construction plans are ambitious, the developers are also devoted to preserving the natural environment. The woods separating the new property from **Tanger Outlets** will remain as **preserved wetlands**, adding a touch of nature to the bustling hub. Although there were some delays due to the project introduction in 2022, the excitement is palpable as construction is set to commence in just a few months.
As Jewel aptly put it, “Getting to the conclusion of it is something that is exciting for me, to get it finally done.” Residents can certainly look forward to the **Uptown at Centre Pointe**, with its promise of vibrant new attractions, job opportunities, and a sense of community. The future of North Charleston is bright, and we can’t wait to see it all unfold!
