North Charleston Prepares for a Day of Health and Hope
In the vibrant city of North Charleston, something special is happening this Saturday! The nonprofit organization Palmetto Palace is all set to host their fourth annual “Day of Hope” event. This gathering aims to offer a cornucopia of health care services—completely free of charge—to anyone and everyone who needs a little help on their health journey.
What to Expect at the Event
So, what can you look forward to during the Day of Hope? Well, the organization will roll out their mobile health unit, which is chock-full of resources for the community. From health screenings and HIV testing to dental fillings and cleanings, this is your chance to get the health care you might be missing out on. Sounds like a fantastic deal, right?
The Executive Director of Palmetto Palace, Dr. Youlanda Gibbs, shared the exciting news about the services available. The mobile health unit, initially designed for a broad range of community health needs, had to take a little detour during the pandemic when it was primarily focused on COVID-19. “Unfortunately, when it became an epidemic, we had to close our doors because there weren’t any best practices on operating a mobile health unit during a pandemic. So, we just refocused our services to provide what was needed the most, which was access to testing and vaccines,” Gibbs explains. But guess what? They are back and better than ever!
Who Can Attend?
Palmetto Palace warmly invites everyone to come and take advantage of these health services at the event. This is especially beneficial for individuals over the age of 15 who may be undocumented or uninsured. No one should miss out on a chance to improve their health because of their current situation.
On that day, you can expect to see various health professionals ready to assist. There will be certified dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants available to help with your dental needs. Plus, nurse practitioners will be there to provide crucial health care screenings for diabetes and high blood pressure. “We will have everybody in their prospective places with varying levels of expertise, and we’re dedicated to helping our community achieve wellness,” Gibbs adds enthusiastically.
Additional Offerings
But that’s not all! The Day of Hope isn’t just about health care. Attendees can also look forward to free food, making it a perfect opportunity to grab a bite while prioritizing your health. For families, there will be a children’s area so the little ones can have a fun time while parents focus on their well-being!
Mark your calendars! The event will take place at the Gussie Greene Community Center located at 2008 Success Street. The doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., giving everyone ample time to come by and take advantage of these fantastic offerings.
