This $45 million facility, covering 54,000 square feet, will consolidate healthcare services in Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton Counties, offering a wide range of medical services. Expected to create 60 new jobs, the pavilion aims to improve healthcare accessibility and is projected to open in spring 2026.
On February 11, 2025, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) officially commenced construction on a highly anticipated medical office building, marking a significant milestone for the local healthcare landscape. The facility, named the MUSC Health Bluffton Medical Pavilion, is set to redefine how residents in the region receive healthcare.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be a striking $45 million and will cover a substantial area of 54,000 square feet. This significant investment is not just a building; it is an ambitious initiative designed to consolidate various healthcare services that were previously scattered across multiple locations into one cutting-edge facility. Serving the communities of Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton Counties, this new pavilion will particularly focus on enhancing accessibility and convenience for all patients.
The range of services planned for the MUSC Health Bluffton Medical Pavilion is impressive and comprehensive. Residents can expect to find services including pediatrics, oncology, vascular treatment, and both pediatric and adult primary care. The facility will also feature state-of-the-art specialized services such as a freestanding emergency department and an ambulatory surgical center.
In-depth design details reveal that the first floor of the pavilion will host a sleep lab with independent access, lead-lined X-ray facilities, and numerous exam rooms. The second floor will focus on imaging services and house a cardiovascular lab, complete with an instrument sterilization room to ensure safety and efficiency.
For those needing phlebotomy services, there will be four dedicated blood-drawing stations on site. The third floor is designed exclusively for oncology services, showcasing a medical and surgical oncology clinic, an oncology compounding pharmacy, and essential lab services. Noteworthy is the pharmacy’s specially designed negatively pressurized environment aimed at minimizing the spread of airborne illnesses.
Furthermore, the facility will ensure continuous operation even during power outages, thanks to a robust generator system. The design also prioritizes safety through features such as a large registration area, an entry vestibule with badged access, and efficient vertical circulation provided by two elevators and a stair tower.
Adding to the user-friendly experience, an outdoor area will provide a canopied drop-off zone and 259 parking spots equipped with ADA-compliant options. Environmentally conscious, the building has also been designed to effectively manage stormwater runoff, employing a French drain system and incorporating pervious paving around a retention pond.
Architecturally, the building is set to embrace an aesthetic of natural light while ensuring intuitive wayfinding and promoting healing environments. Each of the three stories is designed with 18,000 square feet of innovative space, poised to accommodate a range of medical facilities that prioritize patient comfort and accessibility.
As part of its broader community impact, the construction of the MUSC Health Bluffton Medical Pavilion is projected to create approximately 60 new jobs, including 17 medical provider positions. Located at 700 Buckwalter Towne Blvd. in Bluffton, the new facility will be situated right next to the upcoming Beaufort Memorial Bluffton Community Medical Campus, creating a comprehensive healthcare hub in the area.
This ambitious development is a key component of a collaborative effort between MUSC Health and Beaufort Memorial Hospital, focused on amplifying medical staff and expanding specialties in the region. The MUSC Health Bluffton Medical Pavilion is anticipated to open its doors in spring 2026, heralding a new era of healthcare accessibility and excellence for the neighborhoods it serves.
