Aidan Hunter delivered a masterful performance on the mound, pitching the College of Charleston to a resounding 4-0 victory over William & Mary at Patriots Point on Saturday. The Cougars extended their winning streak to seven games and secured their 10th win in the last 11 conference matchups.
Hunter put on a pitching clinic, allowing only three hits while striking out seven batters over eight shutout innings. The right-hander showcased his dominance from the start, striking out the side in the first inning and efficiently navigating through William & Mary’s lineup throughout the game.
Charleston’s offense provided Hunter with the early run support he needed, scoring two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Cole Singsank and a run-scoring single by Luke Wood. The Cougars added two insurance runs in the eighth inning, with Will Baumhofer delivering an RBI single and Kevin Madden driving in a run with a groundout.
The victory secured College of Charleston’s series win over William & Mary, with the Cougars improving to 27-10 overall and 11-3 in CAA play. William & Mary, on the other hand, suffered its first CAA series loss of the season, dropping to 25-14 overall and 8-6 in conference.
With the win, College of Charleston improved to 20-8 at home, reaching the 20-win mark at Patriots Point for the 19th time in 23 full seasons. The Cougars are also on the brink of achieving their 1,100th win since the program resumed in 1991.
The Cougars will look to complete the series sweep against William & Mary tomorrow at noon. The game time has been adjusted due to potential inclement weather later in the day.
Cole Singsank, Luke Wood, Will Baumhofer, and Kevin Madden were among the offensive standouts for College of Charleston in the victory, while Cole Mathis and Brent Gibbs contributed with key plays on the basepaths.
College of Charleston will aim to carry the momentum into their next game against William & Mary as they seek to complete the series sweep and extend their winning streak to eight games.
