As we gear up to celebrate Veteran’s Day in just a few weeks, the charming city of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina is stepping up its efforts to honor our brave men and women who have served in the military. The popular Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum is inviting everyone to join in on the celebration and support the preservation of our military history in a meaningful way.
Patriots Point is not just any museum; it’s a place where history comes alive! Visitors are given a chance to step aboard the historic U.S.S. Yorktown and explore exhibitions that narrate the story of our military heroes. With the mission to inspire future generations while honoring the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women, the museum is kicking off its first-ever membership program, and it’s about to make quite the splash!
According to Meaghan Silsby, the executive director of the Yorktown Foundation, the new membership program is designed to offer exclusive benefits to its members. “The benefits of the new membership program will include exclusive access to our membership events throughout the year,” she mentioned enthusiastically. This creates a fantastic opportunity for members to meet fellow volunteers and community members, deepening their connection to Patriots Point.
Members can expect a hearty helping of perks, including unlimited museum admission, discounts on tours and merchandise, and a chance to participate in engaging events designed just for them. Oh, and here’s a cherry on top—thanks to their partnership with the North American Reciprocal Museum Association (NARM), members can also gain free entry to other participating museums across the country!
The Yorktown Foundation, which operates as a nonprofit organization, has set an ambitious goal of raising $150,000 through this membership initiative. Their current membership stands at 600, but they’re all geared up to see that number grow significantly. The funds collected will play a key role in maintaining the historical integrity of Patriots Point, ensuring that it remains a place of education and remembrance.
“The foundation is really passionate about preserving our ships and the military legacy we hold at Patriots Point,” Silsby reflected. It’s all about honoring those who have come before us and sharing their stories with future generations.
Understanding the importance of engaging younger generations, Patriots Point is taking proactive steps to keep history vibrant. Silsby shared that they’ve hired a consultant group to evaluate the current operations, including tour routes and exhibits. “They are getting creative on how our museum displays may potentially look in the future,” she revealed. That’s a ticket to an exciting evolution of how history is presented!
The tiered membership structure promises something for everyone, so whether you’re a history buff or simply looking to support a great cause, there’s a place for you.
