The Lucy Beckham boys lacrosse team’s appeal of sanctions was denied by the S.C. High School League executive committee, preventing them from competing in the state playoffs. The team, which has won the state championship two years in a row, had four regular-season games voided and was fined $1,000 for violating league rules during a tournament in January.
During the tournament, an outside team comprised of Beckham players used school helmets while Beckham coaches were present. Despite appealing for leniency, the committee voted 7-3 to uphold the sanctions. The school plans to escalate the appeal to the SCHSL’s appellate panel.
