Charleston, SC – It seems Mother Nature is brewing up quite the storm for the Lowcountry on Wednesday! As weather experts predict harsh conditions, several school districts have decided to close their doors for the day, prioritizing the safety of students and staff.
The Charleston County School District has announced a complete shutdown for all schools on Wednesday, signaling a cautious approach to the anticipated severe weather. Joining them, the Berkeley County School District will also be closing its schools and offices for the day. The head honchos behind the scenes are clearly taking no chances with the incoming threat!
But wait, there’s more! Dorchester School District 2 plans to implement its eLearning procedures on Wednesday, adapting to the high wind concerns. Meanwhile, they will be closing all schools in Dorchester School District 4 completely for the day, ensuring that no students find themselves in a potentially dangerous situation.
The Colleton County School District has decided to close schools as well, aiming to keep students safe from the disruptive high winds and the chance of hail. Afterschool activities and athletic events are called off, ensuring that students stay home where it’s safe and sound. These decisions are all about playing it smart with public safety as a priority!
In Orangeburg, the storm has not gone unnoticed, with the Orangeburg County School District announcing it too will close schools on Wednesday, especially due to the high winds in the forecast. All athletic events and extracurricular activities have been postponed, allowing parents and students to focus on staying safe during the storm.
Now, what’s causing all this ruckus? Weather reports indicate that the storm is expected to hit the Lowcountry region between 6:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Winds are projected to gust between a whopping 36 to 46 miles per hour, with gusts reaching as high as 75 miles per hour! That’s some serious wind!
Additionally, the Beaufort County School District won’t hold any in-person or eLearning classes on Wednesday either, along with canceling all afterschool activities. Palmetto Christian Academy and the First Baptist School of Charleston are also joining the closure bandwagon due to the impending severe weather. It’s a full-blown closure day!
For students at Learn4Life High School-Charleston, fear not! They’ll be shifting to eLearning procedures, kicking off live virtual classes at 8 a.m. It’s great to see some schools adapting and continuing educational pursuits from the safety of home.
Interestingly enough, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will open its doors a bit later in the day at 12:30 p.m., providing a bit of respite while still keeping an eye on the weather. Just goes to show, every institution is handling things in their own unique way!
For parents in the Berkeley County area, keep an eye on your email for detailed communications regarding school closures. Each district is working diligently to keep everyone informed, with updates on storm conditions and closures available on their respective websites and social media channels.
As we brace for the storm, let’s remember that safety is the top priority. Stay indoors, keep your loved ones close, and ride out the storm smartly. With all the closures and precautions being taken, it’s a reminder of how important it is to stay aware and prepared during severe weather.
