Lowcountry Pup Rescued from Apartment Fire in Charleston

On Tuesday morning, just before 6:30 AM, the Charleston and Mount Pleasant Fire units rushed to the scene of a fire alarm at an apartment complex in the Cainhoy area. This sudden alarm set off a chain of events that put both residents and their pets in danger, but thanks to the swift actions of the firefighters, a pup’s life was saved.
What Happened?
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the 300 block of Newbrook Drive after calls came in about an automatic fire alarm. When they arrived at the three-story apartment, they found the alarm ringing loudly, and residents reported smelling smoke. Immediate concerns grew about what might be happening inside, so fire crews jumped into action.
The Search and Rescue
Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the building, quickly focusing on the third floor, where they suspected a fire might have started. They found a door that needed to be forced open and, upon entering, were met with a cloud of smoke. Inside the apartment, they discovered a kitchen fire. Fortunately, the fire was already being contained by the home’s sprinkler system, which had done its job in limiting the damage.
Even amidst the smoke and chaos, the firefighters were quick to act. They performed a rapid search of the apartment and discovered a dog inside. As a result, officials expect that three adults will be displaced while repairs are carried out.
