In Lowcountry, S.C., the spirit of community shines bright as residents band together to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene. As the storm has swept through parts of North Carolina, many locals are eager to lend a helping hand and show their support. Numerous drop-off locations have been established in and around the Lowcountry to collect supplies that will be sent to those in dire need.
One standout initiative comes from Atlantic Coast Electric Supply, who have teamed up with Operation Airdrop to gather essential supplies. These donations will be taken to their Concord, N.C. branch and further distributed to impacted areas. If you’re wondering what to donate, check out the list they’ve put together. Every little bit counts!
The American Legion Post 179 is also making a difference by collecting supplies for Western North Carolina. Located at 1748 Ashley Hall Road in West Ashley, they’re welcoming all kinds of donations to help their neighbors in need.
Another inspiring project is underway with West Ashley Connects. They’re gearing up to fill a 15′ truck this Saturday, Oct. 5, to deliver supplies straight to Swannanoa and Asheville. You can find their truck stationed at Citadel Mall in front of the MUSC clinic. All items collected will be donated to Hearts with Hands, a certified FEMA nonprofit dedicated to helping Hurricane victims.
The Charleston Firefighters Local 61 along with the Charleston Fire Department have opened their doors for donations at any fire station in Charleston. If you’re looking to lend your support, take a moment to check out their full list of acceptable items. Every single act of kindness adds up!
Over in the upstate, firefighters from St. Johns have personally visited areas devastated by Tropical Storm Helene, and their findings have been quite alarming. Many basic items are needed to support the community. You can make a difference by dropping off donations on Oct. 3 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. John’s Fire District Maintenance Facility.
On James Island, the local community is rallying together with Pet helpers to ship supplies to the hardest hit areas. The first truckload has already been dispatched to Aiken, S.C., with plans for more shipments in the weeks to come.
If you’re looking for a way to help while also enjoying a meal, The Codfather at Nexton is making a fabulous offer. They’re collecting supplies at their location at 508 Nexton Square Drive until Sunday, Oct. 6, and they plan to transport both supplies and 200 fish dinners to the Greenville area on Monday, Oct. 7. They need everything from water and canned goods to hygiene products and baby items.
All donations collected in the Lowcountry will go directly to the United Way of North Carolina. They plan to distribute supplies to counties in Western North Carolina that have been impacted by Hurricane Helene. This is a great way to ensure that your generosity reaches those who need it most.
So, if you’re able to spare a few items or lend your time to help others, many opportunities await you right here in our community. Let’s come together to support our neighbors and show them just how resilient and caring the Lowcountry spirit can be!
