Lowcountry Food Bank Runs its First Mobile Pantry, Thanks to Publix Charities

In Charleston, South Carolina, the Lowcountry Food Bank held its inaugural produce distribution event using a mobile pantry truck donated by Publix Charities. The activity took place on April 23rd at Westview Elementary School, located in Goose Creek.

Redefining Pantry Trucks

Food trucks play a significant role in bringing essential food items closer to the people, especially in hard-to-reach areas, such as rural communities devoid of grocery stores. Beyond providing sustenance, these trucks also help combat food insecurity amongst families, senior citizens, students and other vulnerable groups.

“This truck has been in the works for a long time,” noted Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President, and CEO. “The Pantry truck that Publix Charities donated to us gives us added flexibility in terms of where we can go and how we can reach our neighbors who need access to healthy food.”

Pantry trucks not only provide valuable services but also help reduce both food wastage and associated costs. Refrigerated mobile trucks extend the lifespan of fresh produce, making more food available to communities.
