Local entrepreneurs passionately pitching their innovative business ideas at Palmetto Goodwill's Business Pitch Showcase.
Last Friday, the Palmetto Goodwill’s Business Pitch Showcase brought together five local entrepreneurs who presented their innovative ideas for a chance to secure funding. Inspired by Shark Tank, the event featured engaging pitches from talented business owners. Odius Bonneau of NeighborCuts Landscaping claimed the top prize of $25,000, while The Art Couple Parties & Events, Sensational Spirits, Sunset Studios, and Paula Jenkins Home Inspections also earned significant funding to grow their businesses. The event celebrated local entrepreneurship with plans for future showcases.
Last Friday in the charming heart of the Lowcountry, a buzz of excitement filled the air as five local entrepreneurs pitched their innovative ideas for a chance to secure funding at the much-anticipated Palmetto Goodwill’s Business Pitch Showcase. Inspired by the thrilling concept of Shark Tank, this showcase was a part of Palmetto Goodwill’s Microenterprise Accelerator Program (MAP), where entrepreneurial dreams took center stage.
The event attracted a crowd eager to see who would emerge victorious among the participating finalists. Each of the five talented business owners presented their concepts to an esteemed panel of judges, sharing their visions and passion for what they do. Judged by prominent figures like Herbert Drayton III, managing partner at HI Mark Capital, Michelle Woodhull, the president of Charming Inns of Charleston, and Jackie Berger, the executive director of Lowcountry Local First, the stakes were high.
Claiming the top spot, Odius Bonneau, a trailblazer in his own right, took home a fabulous funding prize of $25,000 for his business, NeighborCuts Landscaping. As the first in his family to attend college and become a homeowner, Bonneau’s achievement is not just personal; it’s a beacon of hope for those in his community. His landscaping business not only offers quality lawn care services but also emphasizes the importance of building a community-focused enterprise.
Following closely was Rostina Mincey and her husband Eugene Hardin, the dynamic duo behind The Art Couple Parties & Events LLC. Their whimsical painting parties captured the hearts of many, and with a prize of $15,000, they are set to take these creative experiences to new heights. Imagine paint splatters and laughter filling the room as people come together to let their artistic flair shine!
In third place, we raise a glass to Kadeem Elmore, the mastermind behind Sensational Spirits—a premium mobile bar and beverage service. With a handsome $10,000 awarded to expand his brand, Elmore is focused on training new mixologists to serve up unforgettable drinks at events throughout the Lowcountry. The idea of bringing top-notch cocktails directly to your door is certainly making waves!
The competition wasn’t just about traditional businesses; it also embraced the tech world. Rodney Clay’s indie video game studio, Sunset Studios, secured $5,000 to advance the development of their debut game, Escape Mars. With plans to launch in Fall 2026, gamers can eagerly anticipate what this creative team has in store!
Last but certainly not least, Paula Jenkins of Paula Jenkins Home Inspections walked away with $5,000 to elevate her inspection services. As homeowners know, finding a reliable inspector is crucial, and Jenkins is excited to expand her reach and enhance her marketing efforts.
This showcase was not just a competition; it was a celebration of local entrepreneurship and innovation. With the announcement that Palmetto Goodwill plans to run the MAP program again in the future, there will be more opportunities for team members, their families, and aspiring entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into a reality. The excitement is palpable, and the potential for future success is limitless!
The stories shared and dreams fostered during this event remind us all of the power of community support and determination in making the Lowcountry a vibrant hub for creativity and commerce. Let’s raise a toast to the winners and all the participants, whose hard work and passion shine bright!
