Charleston Gears Up for the Return of Kulture Klash!

Charleston, mark your calendars! The ninth edition of Kulture Klash is just around the corner, set to take place on November 16th. This beloved one-day arts festival is back with a bang, and it’s moving to a brand-new venue in North Charleston’s rejuvenated Navy Yard — welcome to Building 64!

A New Chapter at Building 64

For those not in the know, Building 64 is the latest creative adventure led by the festival’s founder, David “Big Hair” Brisacher. He’s excited to return to the roots of Kulture Klash, a festival that began way back in 2007. “It’s a full circle moment for me,” Brisacher expressed. “We used this very same space for Kulture Klash 10 to 15 years ago, and now it’s transformed into a venue that will showcase all forms of art.”

Brisacher’s enthusiasm is contagious as he invites everyone to experience the vibrant pulse of Charleston’s arts scene through this event. The newly minted Building 64 promises to be more than just a venue; it’s set to be a showcase of creativity.

Your Day of Artistic Exploration

If you’ve been to Kulture Klash before, you know it’s a feast for the senses! This year is no different, boasting a myriad of activities that cater to everyone’s tastes. Prepare for musical performances held on not one, but two stages! You’ll get to groove to the beats of artists such as Chali2na, The Dubplates, and many more, including talented DJs like DJ jeffET and DJ Skitch.

But that’s not all! Get ready for a dazzling display of interactive performance art. One particularly thrilling collaboration involves Jenifer Padilla from Redux and the Unbound Ballet Project, which Brisacher describes as “a beautiful combination of dance and paint.” This is not just an event, it’s a canvas bursting with creativity!

Visual Wonders Await

Art lovers, this is your chance to witness an impressive showcase! Over 100 visual artists will have their work displayed throughout the venue. From established street artists who will bring their murals and graffiti talents to life against the canvas of Building 64, to emerging talents spotlighted through collaborations with local schools like the Charleston County School of the Arts and Academic Magnet, the visual arts component is bound to captivate.

Keep an eye out for the stunning light installations set to illuminate the venue, created by local talents from Lazer Catcher, Prizm Productions, and Big Hair Productions. The venue itself will transform into an artistic wonderland!

Party with a Purpose

And here’s the icing on the cake: Kulture Klash is not just about having a good time, it’s a “party with a purpose.” All proceeds from the event will support The Livity Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting low-income youth through cultural, educational, and wellness initiatives. So while you’re having a blast, know that you’re also contributing to a worthy cause.
