Adding to the bustling food culture of North Charleston, the celebrated and James Beard-nominated restaurant, Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, has recently moved into a new location at the Gas Lite Shopping Center, 5601 Rivers Ave. The lease for the renowned food franchise forms part of the four new retail leases signed by the Charleston-based Adams Property Group for the North Charleston retail center.
Kiki Cyrus, the owner of Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, has a unique success story which she attributes to her childhood experiences of cooking with her mother and grandmother and later learning the ropes of the food industry by working at large chains, such as California Dreaming. The idea of her independent restaurant venture was born when she and her husband visited the famous Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles in Atlanta.
Today, Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles boasts locations in Columbia and, most recently, North Charleston. Successfully establishing itself as a local favorite and gaining national recognition, the Charleston location replaced Oriental Cuisine, a long-time resident of the Gas Lite Shopping Center.
Alongside Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, Adams Property Group has signed leases for additional businesses to set up at the Gas Lite Shopping Center. These include Sparrow’s Point Jewelry and Piercing, Empire Flooring, and the Art of Barbering. These new additions promise to increase the retail diversity of this bustling North Charleston hub.
The addition of Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles in North Charleston is a demonstration of Charleston’s evolving culinary landscape. Often celebrated for its rich food culture, Charleston offers a gastronomic delight to locals and visitors alike. This recent development further cements Charleston’s reputation as a culinary hotspot in the region.
Adams Property Group, based in Charleston, is recognized for its strategic decision-making and robust portfolio of retail and commercial properties. Its recent endeavor at the Gas Lite Shopping Center, highlighted by the addition of notable tenants including the renowned Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, showcases its commitment to facilitating diverse and successful business ventures.
The arrival of Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles at the Gas Lite Shopping Center in North Charleston presents an exciting development for local residents. As the business scene in North Charleston continues to grow and diversify, food-lovers will watch with anticipation to see which acclaimed culinary brands might set up shop in the area next.
