Community Commemorates Murdered Charleston Actor Johnny Wactor

In a show of solidarity and remembrance, friends and family members of a popular Charleston actor, Johnny Wactor, orchestrated a mile-long walk. The event was held in the actor’s hometown following his tragic murder in Los Angeles to keep his memory alive as well as bring attention to his unsolved case.

Murder of Johnny Wactor

Johnny Wactor, known for his roles as Brando Corbin on the celebrated soap opera “General Hospital” and notable appearances in popular TV shows like “Westworld” and “Criminal Minds”, was shot and killed at around 3:30 a.m. on May 25th. Aged 37 at the time of his death, Wactor reportedly stumbled upon three men attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his car, leading to a confrontation that ended in his shooting. The assailants are still at large, according to official reports.

The Summerville Memorial Event

The memorial event, which featured a coordinated walk and run, began at Hutchinson Square in Summerville and did a loop around the downtown area. Anne Marie Murtaugh, a friend of Wactor, took the lead in organizing the event. Johnny Wactor’s younger brother, Grant Wactor, expressed his appreciation for the community support, not just at the local level but also in Los Angeles where a similar event had been held.

Many participants wore shirts displaying Johnny Wactor’s image at the front with ‘Justice For Johnny’ emblazoned on the back. A memorial table adorned with family photos and pictures of Johnny, lit with candles and nestled amidst flowers, provided a poignant center to the gathering.

Hopes and Resolutions

Grant Wactor stated that their mother is persistently praying and hoping for the return of justice for her son. According to him, the family is doing their utmost to keep the momentum in the case while preparing to return to California for the legal proceedings once it is time for Johnny’s case.

The support demonstrated by their local friends continues to be a source of comfort for them, months after Johnny’s untimely death. Grant was vocal about their resolve to keep Johnny’s memory alive and the case in public view to prevent it from being lost in fleeting news cycles.

The tragic event in the life of a promising actor and the grit demonstrated by his loved ones serves as a sobering reminder of the unfinished business in the justice system, and the importance of community solidarity in the face of such crises.
