“We’re excited about this collaboration with Ilegal Mezcal and thrilled to be the final stop on the 2024 Bar Ilegal tour,” said Brian Livesay, The Matador’s Beverage Director. “We’ve been long-time partners with Ilegal Mezcal, and big fans of both their mezcals and their brand for even longer. Their passion for authentic Mexican culture, community, and traditional agave spirits is amazing and we couldn’t be happier to help them bring this event to Charleston.”

About The Matador: Located in downtown Charleston’s historic district, The Matador offers an inviting space where guests can immerse themselves in the vibrant flavors of Mexico and enjoy one of the largest selections of tequila and agave spirits in the Carolinas. It is open every day from 11 a.m. – 12 a.m. with a daily happy hour from 4 – 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. – last call.

The Matador will show you a taste of Mexico reimagined. The food menu features scratch-made dishes that blend traditional Mexican-inspired flavors with local influences and fresh, seasonal ingredients. Complementing the food menu is an impressive selection of 150+ tequila and agave spirits and a list of hand-crafted margaritas and cocktails made with the freshest juices and unique house-made ingredients.

The Matador boasts over 4,500 sq. ft. of upstairs event space and can accommodate groups of all sizes — from small, intimate gatherings to large-scale parties. The private event space offers access to a private bar, outdoor patio, and TVs, and parties can choose from a customizable catering menu, including options for appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks. About Ilegal Mezcal and Bar Ilegal: Ilegal is beautifully balanced mezcal with a legendary history that includes smuggling and weeklong parties in Café No Sé, a clandestine bar and music hub in Antigua, Guatemala. Handcrafted in small batches by fourth-generation mezcaleros, Ilegal is made with perfectly ripe, sustainable Espadín agave, double distilled in the Santiago Matatlan Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico.

Opened by Ilegal founder John Rexer around 2004, Café No Sé is the original home of Ilegal Mezcal and the first mezcal bar opened outside of Mexico. Bar Ilegal — the world’s largest mezcal tour — is an experiential outpost of Café No Sé, with specialty mezcal cocktails, mezcal education, live music, and flash tattoos.

Join us for a night of mezcal, music, and memories at The Matador in Charleston!
