BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.— Motorists are advised to expect lane closures on I-26 westbound near the Cypress Campground overpass. Announced by Banks Construction Company, the closure is due to planned paving operations set to occur on Wednesday.

The paving work aligns with Banks Construction’s ongoing efforts to establish girders for the new Cypress Campground bridge. The operations are scheduled from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. the following morning.

About the Paving Operations

Significant work on the I-26 westbound is needed to support the Cypress Campground bridge project. The area near the Cypress Campground overpass will serve as the epicenter for these operations, providing the necessary ground for installing the bridge girders. With the paving work expected to enhance the functionality of the overpass, the process requires temporary lane closures.

Each closure is projected to last up to 20 minutes, with multiple closures occurring intermittently throughout the night. Despite the disruption to traffic flow, these closures are a necessary part of the paving operations to ensure the overall safety and efficiency of the project.

Driving Instructions and Safety Measures

Drivers passing through the area are encouraged to stay alert to the changes and adhere strictly to all traffic control signs. This includes complying with the slowdown of speed limits and paying heed to message board instructions.

The presence of equipment and work crews can pose potential hazards; hence, road users are urged to exercise utmost caution when passing through the work zone. A high level of attention and compliance with safety regulations significantly contributes to a safe working environment for construction workers while minimizing potential road hazards for drivers.

Banks Construction has also recommended motorists to make use of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) 511 app. This app provides real-time traffic information, helping drivers plan their routes effectively to avoid any major traffic disruptions from the ongoing work.

Takeaway

The upcoming lane closures on I-26 westbound near the Cypress Campground overpass, due to paving operations, could cause minor bumps in road users’ journeys. This is, however, a crucial step in the overall Cypress Campground bridge project. The construction company has called for the understanding, caution, and co-operation of all drivers in helping facilitate a smooth and successful paving operation.

By using resources like the SCDOT 511 app, road users can stay updated about traffic conditions, ensuring seamless navigation around the area affected by the construction work, thus, maintaining regular traffic flow while the construction work is underway.
