An early morning house fire in North Charleston, South Carolina left four people, including two children, displaced and resulted in the unfortunate death of a dog due to smoke inhalation. The fire broke out at a residence on the 9000 block of Fieldstone Trace, confirmed the North Charleston Fire department.
Fire crews responded to the emergency call at 5:09 a.m. Upon reaching the scene, they reported observing heavy smoke and flames emanating from the garage of the single-family home. Firefighters immediately initiated efforts to extinguish the blaze engulfing the vehicles parked inside the garage and propagated inside the home.
As the fire continued to spread, an extensive search of the residence was carried out ensuring that no individuals were trapped inside. During the rescue operation, fire crews managed to save three guinea pigs. Unfortunately, the family pet dog was recovered from the scene but could not be saved and later succumbed to smoke inhalation.
Due to the severity and the rapid escalation of the fire which proceeded to the attic and eventually broke through the roof, the firefighting teams had to evacuate the structure.
The fire led to two adults and two children being displaced from their home. As the property underwent significant damage making it uninhabitable, the affected family is currently being assisted by the American Red Cross. It was a relief that no firefighter injuries were reported from the incident.
As of now, the origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation by local authorities. This unfortunate incident has brought grief and loss to the family involved, and highlighting the importance of adequate fire safety measures in residential areas.
