Exciting Holiday Fun Awaits in Mount Pleasant!

If you’re in Mount Pleasant, get ready to celebrate the holidays in a truly wonderful way! The USS Yorktown at the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is gearing up for its first-ever Yuletide on the Yorktown event, and it’s promising to be a day full of festive fun on Sunday, December 8.

Event Details

Mark your calendars, folks! The festivities kick off from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the hangar bay of the famed World War II aircraft carrier. This magical event will feature a delightful Festival of Wreaths as well as a Holiday Market where you can browse through local vendors and shop for some fabulous artisanal goods just in time for the season.

And that’s not all! There will be live music to fill the air with holiday cheer. For the little ones, they can dive into a world of fun with activities like face painting and kids’ crafts. Oh, and don’t forget to stop by and say hi to the one and only Santa Claus, who will be on board the Yorktown from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Families can capture those special moments with professional photo packages starting at just $40.

All About the Admission

Wondering how much it’ll cost to join in on the festivities? It’s a steal! Admission is only $15 for the entire day, which gives you access to both the museum and the holiday event. Plus, if you’re a member of the Friends of the Fleet or have kids under six, you can enjoy the festivities for free (though hourly parking rates do apply).

For the special members of the Friends of the Fleet, make sure you check out the Cookies ‘N Crafts activity happening in Hangar Bay 1, just for you!

Wreaths and Good Cheer

One of the highlights of the event is the Festival of Wreaths. Local organizations from across the Charleston area have come together to contribute 24 uniquely crafted wreaths that will be up for bidding. Guests can place their bids both online and in person, with all proceeds supporting the USS Yorktown Foundation and the ongoing programming at Patriots Point. The wreaths will be beautifully displayed in the hangar bay through December 13.

According to Meaghan Silsby, the Executive Director of the USS Yorktown Foundation, the Festival of Wreaths celebrates “community, creativity, and giving back.” She emphasizes that this event not only brings people together during the holiday season but also supports the foundation’s mission of preserving history. Each wreath and donation showcases the generosity of the community, which is vital for honoring the legacy of Patriots Point.

Grateful Sponsors

The Yuletide on the Yorktown wouldn’t be possible without its generous sponsors, including Lowe’s of Mount Pleasant, Charleston County Park’s Holiday Festival of Lights, and, of course, the USS Yorktown Foundation. These sponsors are pivotal in helping the event come to life, so be sure to show them some love while you’re there!

Join the Festivities!

So, gather your family and friends, and come on out to the USS Yorktown this December 8. With exciting activities planned and a historical backdrop, it’s going to be a day filled with joy and holiday spirit that you won’t want to miss!
