In a distressing incident in North Charleston, an 11-year-old boy named Tyler Mitchell-Finley was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle, resulting in serious injuries. The unidentified driver, after hitting the boy, briefly stopped to ask Tyler if he was okay before leaving the scene of the accident.
The incident occurred on Forest Hills Drive on May 26 at around 1 p.m. According to reports, Tyler was suddenly hit from behind while riding his bicycle, throwing him off his vehicle. After the driver left the scene, a neighborhood kid had to help Tyler reach his grandmother’s house, where he was then picked up by an ambulance and taken to a local hospital.
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors discovered that Tyler had multiple fractures in his leg and ankle. He underwent an immediate medical treatment and is currently in the process of recovery. It is estimated that it might take six to eight weeks for his full recovery. These unfortunate circumstances will consume most of Tyler’s summer vacation, restraining him from enjoying his free time as he used to.
Tashana Mitchell, Tyler’s mother, expressed her distress after the incident. She stressed the need for justice for her son and aims to press charges against the unidentified driver. However, lack of an ID from the driver puts her in a helpless situation. Mitchell highlighted the severity of what could have transpired from such an occurrence, stressing the potential for grave internal injuries, trauma to the head, or spinal damages.
Mitchell appealed for any witnesses to the unfortunate incidence or individuals with relevant information about the unidentified driver to step forward. Anyone with information pertaining to this case can directly contact the North Charleston Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 843-745-1077.
The incident has not only physically affected young Tyler, but also seems to have had an emotional impact on him. Once fond of riding bicycles, Tyler is now fearful due to the accident. His mother Mitchell stated he now constantly looks over his shoulder, driven by fear. Investigations on the incident are ongoing as no witnesses to the accident have been identified yet.
