Exciting Times Ahead for Charleston: High Water Festival Set to Rock the Riverfront!

Charleston, get ready to bring out your inner music lover! The High Water Festival is making its much-anticipated return to North Charleston’s Riverfront Park on the weekend of April 26-27, and this year’s lineup is sure to get you dancing in your seat. With headliners like Arcade Fire and Lord Huron gracing the stage, along with Mt. Joy, Counting Crows, and The Backseat Lovers, there’s no shortage of musical talent to look forward to!

A Look Back: What Happened Last Year?

Before we dive into this year’s festivities, it’s worth noting some of the concerns that arose during the 2024 festival. While more than 15,000 attendees flocked to the event daily, it unfortunately didn’t come without its fair share of hiccups. Many attendees were left waiting in lengthy lines due to parking and traffic issues, and there were complaints about liquor sales and even potential theft, raising the anxiety levels a notch.

Additionally, some concertgoers expressed disappointment over the festival’s tiered ticketing system and its evident lack of local musical talent. Even Chris Huber, a writer from a local publication, chimed in, suggesting that while High Water had brought fantastic acts to town and raised funds for local nonprofits, there’s still “more to be done for Charleston.” He emphasized the missed opportunities to showcase more of the local music scene and criticized the inflated prices on merchandise.

Embracing Change: Festival Organizers Listen!

But fear not! The festival organizers have taken note of the past criticisms and are committed to making this year’s event smoother and more enjoyable. According to updates shared on the festival’s social media, they’re collaborating with the city of North Charleston to rework the traffic plans. They’re bringing in an expert to devise a plan that includes better road closures, improved pedestrian paths, and an enhanced rideshare system to prevent congestion. Yes, please!

Organizers are also promising better parking lot staffing operations to help get everyone in and out with fewer headaches.
