Grand Opening of The Haven Brings Hope to Mount Pleasant Families

Mount Pleasant, S.C. has just welcomed a brand-new resource center dedicated to supporting children and families within the foster care, adoption, and kinship community. The Haven held its grand opening on Saturday, a moment many in the area have been eagerly anticipating. This beautiful new facility is part of the broader mission of a local non-profit organization associated with City Life Church, and it has been in development for several years.

A Beautiful Space Designed for Comfort

The Haven is not just any ordinary resource center; it has been designed to feel like a boutique. This thoughtful approach means that children in foster care and their families can shop without the burden of cost hanging over their heads. “We want it to be a beautiful, safe place, which is kind of the plan behind the name Haven,” shared Megan Seavers, the ministry coordinator.

The turning of this vision into reality offers comfort to many future foster parents in the community. The Craswell family, who are expecting to be certified as foster parents later this year, expressed their gratitude for the resource. “It’s helpful for us because we know there’s a place where we can bring any children in our care and pick things out,” said Emily Craswell. She added, “I don’t want to have to tell a child they can’t have it because it’s not in the budget right now. So, here they can come and pick these really beautiful clothes and feel good about themselves.”

A Helping Hand During Difficult Times

Foster care can often be a challenging experience, especially for children who face sudden transitions. The Craswells recognize how traumatic this may be for children entering their home under such conditions. “From what we understand, they could arrive at our doorstep unexpectedly, and we might not be prepared at all,” mentioned Paul Craswell. Knowing that there’s a facility like The Haven can ease some of those concerns, offering necessary items during such crucial moments.

What The Haven Offers

The Haven is set to operate three days a week—Tuesday mornings, Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. With the unpredictability of the foster, kinship, and adoption processes, Seavers emphasized the center’s aim to provide a space where families can gather essential items. The center offers an array of items such as clothes, toys, books, swaddles, shoes, and various hygiene and self-care products.

“Just because you don’t have resources doesn’t mean that you should have the leftovers,” Seavers noted, reinforcing the importance of quality in every item offered at The Haven. The goal is not just to meet basic needs but to ensure that children and families feel respected and valued during their challenging times.

Beyond Material Support

The Haven wants to serve its community not only through tangible donations but also in emotional and spiritual capacities. “We’re just coming alongside the community of adoption and foster care and really just saying, we’re here for you,” Seavers asserted. “We know it’s hard, we know it takes a lot of time and money, and we’re here for you. We want this to grow into more than just a resource center. It’s about how we can serve you mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and tangibly.”

Get Involved!

If you’re feeling inspired and want to support The Haven, there are plenty of ways to get involved! Whether by shopping for items, donating, or volunteering your time, they welcome community participation with open arms. It’s through collective effort that such beautiful initiatives can continue to thrive.

As The Haven settles into its role within Mount Pleasant, it promises to be a cherished resource for families navigating the complexities of foster care and adoption. With love, support, and beautiful offerings, it’s sure to become a real haven for those in need.
