The summer season is inching closer, and for the residents of Goose Creek, the upcoming season holds the exciting promise of weekends relaxing by the pool. The City of Goose Creek’s public pool is scheduled to open its doors to the public on Saturday, May 25th.
The pool, located within the Crowfield Plantation neighborhood, is a city-owned facility, open to all residents. However, city officials have observed that many people are unaware of its public status due to its location within a neighborhood. This perception is something the city hopes to rectify by encouraging more usage and awareness of the pool.
According to Adam Kelly, City of Goose Creek Marketing, Branding and Design Assistant, the recent expansion of the nearby Crowfield Golf Club, the imminent arrival of a new restaurant, and a mini-golf course could potentially spark a higher use of city amenities including the pool.
“This gives us an additional location for people to visit in a quieter setting,” Kelly said. He also mentioned that they invite people to utilize the other city amenities like the tennis courts and areas for children. “A lot of people do not understand that this is a city-owned and operated area.”
To draw more residents to the pool, the city will host special events like movie nights and arts and crafts gatherings, starting with an opening weekend party. The party, which will feature games, food trucks and floats, will be held on May 25 from noon to 2 p.m and is open to anyone interested in attending.
Kelly expressed his hopes that these events will not only increase the use of the pool, but other recreational amenities as well. “Our main goal is to encourage residents outside of Crowfield to understand that this pool is city-owned and operated,” Kelly added.
After opening weekend, the pool will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m, seven days a week barring a few days reserved for swim meets. A day pass for the pool is priced affordably at $3, while season passes can be purchased at the Recreation Center located at 519A North Goose Creek Blvd. These passes cost $50 for city residents and $100 for non-residents. Proof of residency will be required for resident pricing.
From June through August, residents may rent the pool for private events on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7 to 10 p.m. at the cost of $275. The Recreation Center also provides swim and tennis lessons.
