In the quiet town of Goose Creek, South Carolina, a somber mood has enveloped the community following a tragic shooting incident. A domestic dispute among family members erupted in violence, leaving one dead and three others seriously injured.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the deceased as Isis Lorena Johnson, aged 19. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained during the shooting, as confirmed by Coroner Darnell Hartwell.
Local law enforcement responded to reports of gunshots at the Passage Apartment complex on Underwood Lane just before noon on Sunday. Police Chief LJ Roscoe revealed that the situation involved three female family members attempting to get into a vehicle when an 18-year old male family member began to shoot at them.
The suspect later turned the gun on himself, inflicting a self-sustained gunshot wound that was not life-threatening. The shooting has been classified as an isolated incident, a family dispute among four siblings.
Two of the victims, aged 16 and 20, were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Their current condition or the extent of injuries was not immediately available.
“We had an officer working off-duty across the street who responded quickly to the incident. He did his best to provide emergency aid to Isis Lorena Johnson, but it was already too late. After that, we focused on locating the other wounded family members,” said Police Chief Roscoe.
The 18-year-old who is suspected to have initiated the shooting was hospitalized to treat his self-inflicted injury. Upon recovery, he is expected to be taken into custody at the Berkeley County Detention Center. The suspect’s name and the charges against him are yet to be disclosed by law enforcement.
This tragic incident has left the Goose Creek community shocked and in mourning. The tragic loss of Isis Lorena Johnson, a young woman in the prime of her life, has distressed many who knew her. Further developments are expected as the local law enforcement intensifies their investigation.
