Charleston's "Good Night Lights" Spreads Holiday Cheer to Hospitalized Children

Charleston, S.C. Brings Holiday Cheer to Children with “Good Night Lights”!

As the holiday season approaches, the charming city of Charleston is buzzing with excitement as local first responders come together to spread some much-needed cheer and joy to children at the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Starting this Tuesday, the annual event known as “Good Night Lights” kicks off, creating a truly magical experience for young patients and their families alike!

First Responders Light Up the Night

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, police officers, EMTs, and firefighters will gather around the hospital at night to create a dazzling scene that’s sure to bring smiles to the little ones tucked away in their hospital rooms. Using their emergency lights to illuminate the sky, these heroes are sending a radiant message of hope and love to each and every child — “Goodnight, we see you!”

“It changes your life, it changes your perspective,” shares Sergeant Ariel Polite, who is leading the event for a second year in a row. “It makes you even more grateful during the holiday season.” The essence of the event is simple yet profound: visibility and connection. “We just wanna let the kids and their families know that we see you. You are not forgotten during this time. We are here for you.”

Small Gestures Make Big Impact

Sergeant Polite believes that spreading holiday cheer doesn’t require vast resources or hefty expenditures. “It just takes time and using what you already have,” she notes. “It doesn’t take much to bring joy to someone, especially if they are feeling down.” With an uplifting spirit, she emphasizes that simple actions can make a world of difference in someone’s life.

This approaching season of goodwill will also bring some delightful surprises for the children! Each boy and girl will receive goodie bags, filled with treats and goodies, including a special flashlight that they can use to wave goodnight back at the first responders from their windows. How adorable is that?

Santa Flies In!

But wait, there’s more! As if all of this wasn’t enough, the festivities include a special visit from none other than Santa Claus himself! Traditionally, the jolly fellow will be making an appearance for two nights in December, and this year, he’s planning to arrive in style — by helicopter! Talk about making a grand entrance!

Mark Your Calendars!

The “Good Night Lights” event will run once a week for four weeks, with each enchanting display beginning at 7:40 p.m. The final showing will take place on December 19, wrapping up the season on a high note. Families are encouraged to come out, grab a hot cocoa, and witness this delightful spectacle of lights and laughter!

In a time where many may feel lonely or forgotten during the holidays, the efforts of Charleston’s first responders remind us that there is a community that cares deeply. From the twinkling lights to the heartwarming goodie bags, the “Good Night Lights” event is sure to create memories that will last a lifetime.
