Gas Prices Increase Over Past Week

Gas Prices Increase Over Past Week

In South Carolina, the average gas price rose by 5.1 cents during the past week. Interestingly, Hurricane Beryl didn’t significantly influence gas prices.

On Monday morning, the average price for standard gas in the Palmetto State was recorded at $3.25 per gallon, as stated by a survey initiated by GasBuddy. Data from more than 3,000 fuel stations across the state contributed to this reading.

This figure reflects an increase of 17 cents per gallon from last month’s prices and 12.5 cents higher than the figures recorded in the same period the previous year.

Comparison with National Gas Prices

Contrasting this change with statistics on a national scale, the average gas price across the United States surged by 2.5 cents, reaching $3.49 per gallon. This figure represents a growth of 5.2 cents compared to a month ago.

“Just as we observed last summer, the nation’s average price of gasoline has somewhat continued to remain within the mid-$3 per gallon range, displaying a mix of prices,” remarked GasBuddy’s Head Petroleum Analyst, Patrick De Haan.

A slight decrease in prices has been noted in some states, whereas modest increases have been observed in others. The market is now awaiting potentially the next significant trend.

Hurricane Beryl and Gas Prices

While Hurricane Beryl did not substantially affect gas prices, drivers in Texas experienced some difficulty in obtaining gas as a result of power outages, added De Haan.

“For the time being, we’ll see nominal price fluctuations as we wait for any news of hurricane-induced refinery interruptions or other supply obstacles that may arise during the busiest weeks of the summer travel season,” he continued.

Price rise in Diesel

In the last week, it’s been observed that the national baseline price of diesel has risen, increasing by 2.3 cents to reach $3.83 per gallon.

Impact on Local Drivers

Locally, for drivers in the Tri-County area, the cheapest available gasoline was identified at a Costco station in Charleston, listed at $3.08 per gallon.

With these fluctuations in gas prices, drivers and consumers nationwide continue to fulfill their fuel needs, while keeping an eye on the potential impact of the weather and other market factors on their expenses.
