Local residents of Folly Beach, South Carolina are on high alert after a reported incident of possible animal cruelty involving a cat named Skittles.
The incident happened on West Hudson Avenue, when the cat’s owner, Paul Tillman, returned home after preparing for his father’s memorial. He reported finding his tabby cat, Skittles, with a laceration and a distinctive zigzagged pattern shaved into its back. The incident is believed to have taken place last Thursday, June 13, between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Shocked by the cat’s condition, Tillman immediately took Skittles to a local veterinarian for treatment. The cat underwent the necessary medical procedures and received stitches and a drain for its wounds. After ensuring that Skittles received proper medical care, Tillman promptly reported the incident to the Folly Beach Police.
To further alert the community, Tillman shared the ordeal in a local Facebook group, urging all pet owners to be watchful and protect their pets. The incident has sparked an outcry from local residents who expressed their concerns about the safety of their pets.
In response to the incident, Pet Helpers, a local animal welfare organization, has announced a reward of $1,000 for information that would lead to the discovery and arrest of the person responsible for Skittles’ condition. Pet owners and members of the community are urged to contact Folly Beach PD directly at 843-588-7003 with any information regarding this distressing incident.
The incident has been widely condemned, with Carol Linville, founder and president of Pet Helpers, saying, “This incident is deeply troubling. Our pets are beloved members of our families, and such acts will not be tolerated in our community. The person(s) responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
While the local community waits eagerly for the individual responsible to be brought to justice, pet owners are being advised to be extra vigilant about their pets’ whereabouts and well-being.
The Folly Beach Police are currently investigating the incident and ask community members to remain cautious, report any suspicious activities, and continue to be an advocate for their pets’ safety. The community is hopeful that the perpetrator behind this disturbing act will soon be caught and adequately punished.
