This past Friday, residents of the Dockside Condo Townhouses were suddenly awakened to the alarming sounds of emergency responders as a fire broke out in one of the units. It happened in the afternoon, and the Charleston County Dispatch Center was quick to tell the story. Their prompt response ensured that the situation was handled swiftly and with great care.
Just after the initial 911 call came in, the Charleston Fire Department, along with the Mount Pleasant Fire Department, Charleston County EMS, and Charleston Police Department, rushed to the scene located on Concord Street. They hit the scene in less than three minutes! Talk about lightning speed!
Upon arrival, firefighters quickly spotted smoke billowing from the second floor of one of the townhomes. Like true heroes, they entered the burning home to control the flames and look for anyone who might have been caught inside. Luckily, they discovered that the sole occupant had managed to escape before help arrived.
The resident, however, wasn’t unscathed. She suffered burn injuries to her hand during her escape and required medical attention. EMS quickly transported her to a local hospital where she could receive the care she needed.
Fire marshals worked diligently to investigate the cause of the blaze. After thorough examinations, they found that the fire originated on or near a mattress. The story goes that when the resident noticed the flames, she bravely attempted to use a fire extinguisher and even tried to move the mattress. Unfortunately, in the process of relocating it, the fire rapidly escalated, forcing her to evacuate the premises.
According to the Charleston Fire Department, the suspected cause of this fire was a failure of electrical equipment close to the bed. This serves as a vivid reminder of how quickly fires can start and escalate, especially when dealing with faulty wiring or appliances.
In a stroke of good fortune, the fire’s damage was contained and did not spread to any neighboring homes. Thanks to the quick and professional response of the local authorities, the outcome could have been much worse. No other injuries have been reported—only a heroic and determined resident doing her best to save her home.
As authorities continue their investigation, this incident underlines the importance of fire safety awareness in our daily lives. Making sure electrical equipment is in proper working order can make a world of difference and, potentially, save lives.
So whether you light up your space with a cozy ambiance or just rely on modern conveniences, always keep safety at the forefront of your mind.
This Friday story serves as a reminder of the brave work done by police and firefighters, and the determination shown by residents during emergencies. Here’s hoping for a safe and peaceful recovery for the resident affected by the fire!
