Farewell White Duck Taco Shop Leaves a Void in Mount Pleasant’s Dining Scene

Farewell White Duck Taco Shop: A Loss for Mount Pleasant’s Food Scene

Mount Pleasant, S.C. – If you haven’t heard the news, there’s been some sad tidings for taco lovers in Mount Pleasant. Just last week, the beloved White Duck Taco Shop announced its closure after serving delicious tacos for less than two years. The shop took to Instagram on October 23 to share the heartbreaking news that they had prepared their last plate of tacos for the Charleston area.

A Brief Taste of Taco Delight

White Duck Taco Shop opened its doors on May 17, 2023, bringing a fresh and exciting fusion of flavors to Johnnie Dodds Boulevard. With its roots in Asheville, North Carolina, White Duck quickly became known for its inventive tacos and a vibrant atmosphere. Locals and visitors alike flocked to the spot, hungry to experience the unique culinary twist the restaurant offered.

The Aftermath of Hurricane Helene

So what led to this sudden closure? The owners revealed that the impact of Hurricane Helene played a significant role. Their original locations in Asheville were hit hard, resulting in substantial damage. This prompted a focus on rebuilding their Asheville headquarters and the downtown area, which was also affected. The owners expressed their overwhelming gratitude for the love and support they received from guests and local communities during this difficult time.

In a heartfelt message, they shared, “While we focus our efforts on rebuilding Asheville, we’re committed to continuing our mission to bring you the tacos you love, good times that create memories, and the vibrant community spaces that connect us all.” It’s wonderful to see a business that truly cares about its patrons and the community, not to mention the deliciousness of their tacos!

What About Other Locations?

As unfortunate as it is for Mount Pleasant, White Duck Taco Shop’s story doesn’t end here. Earlier in the month, they also had to close their Greenville location at Hampton Station due to similar hurricane-related impacts, making it impossible for them to keep the doors open. However, not all is lost! Several other White Duck locations, including the one on Airport Road in Greenville, are still up and running. So, if you’ve got a taco craving, you still have options!

Community Support: A Silver Lining

Even in the face of adversity, the resilience and support from the community shone through. Fans of White Duck Taco Shop can take solace in the camaraderie built during their time in Mount Pleasant. The restaurant provided more than just a dining experience; it became a local hub for gathering, laughter, and, of course, indulgent tacos.

Moving Forward

While we bid adieu to White Duck Taco Shop in Mount Pleasant, it’s essential to remember the joy they brought and the flavorful experiences we shared. So many of us have those memories of grabbing a taco and sipping on something refreshing, surrounded by friends and family. As they rebuild their Asheville locations and continue to provide tacos in other areas, let’s hold onto those memories.

For now, let’s keep our taco-loving fingers crossed that one day, we might see White Duck come back to our fantastic town! Whether you were a regular at White Duck or just someone who enjoyed their spirited atmosphere, know that their legacy will linger in the air (and our taste buds) for quite some time.

So here’s to new beginnings, taco therapy, and a community that cares. Onward and upward, everyone!
