Fall Celebrations at Charleston Crafts Gallery Showcase Local Artistry

Fall Has Arrived in Charleston: Celebrate with Local Art at Charleston Crafts Gallery

Charleston is stepping into October with open arms, ready to embrace the changing seasons, vibrant colors, and, of course, some fantastic local art! As the leaves start to turn and the air grows cooler, you’re invited to explore a special fall-inspired collection at the Charleston Crafts Gallery. Located at 140 East Bay, Suite D, this cozy gallery showcases the incredible work of local artisans who have created pieces that reflect the essence of autumn.

Meet the Artists and Explore Their Creations

This month, the spotlight shines on ten talented artist members, all of whom are showcasing their unique interpretations of fall through various art and craft mediums. You’ll have the chance to meet these creative minds during the first Friday art walk on October 4, from 5 PM to 8 PM. So, why not stop by, say hello, and soak in the fall vibes?

One of the standout pieces you won’t want to miss is Marty Biernbaum‘s stunning Lava Glaze ceramic sculpture in a vibrant red shade—it’s pure eye candy! Over in the jewelry section, Selma Andrews has crafted exquisite necklaces out of polymer clay, adorned with intricate images of leaves and flowers. Trust us; these one-of-a-kind pieces are a feast for the eyes!

Textile Wonders and More

For those who appreciate textile artistry, Lynn Gettlefinger has created a lovely quilt titled “Autumn by the Stream,” which beautifully captures the cooler mood of fall. Meanwhile, Susan Livingston takes viewers on a nostalgic journey through the woods with her unique fabric collages, often incorporating found objects like leaves and feathers into her designs.

Adding a whimsical touch to the mix is Gini Steele, a knitter whose original designs break all the rules! Expect to see her playful knit pieces featuring special buttons and felted elements that are sure to bring a smile to your face. And for those who enjoy intricate paper crafts, don’t miss Fairoozan Abdullah‘s gorgeous Fall Owl made through the art of paper quilling—an absolute must-see!

Wearable Art and Fiber Creations

Jewelry lovers will be thrilled to discover Laurie Prophater‘s stunning polymer clay bracelets, highlighted by beautiful maps of Charleston dating back to the 1870s. Meanwhile, Iryna Toney, a fiber artist, specializes in crochet and creates delightful hand-crafted sweaters, wraps, and hats, each featuring her unique finishing touches.

If you are on the hunt for unique apparel, look out for Jennifer York, the 2024 Lowcountry Artist of the Year, whose hand-dyed silk tunics and sweaters are perfect for the fall season.

Celebrate Local Art in Charleston

While these artists take center stage during October, the work of all members of the Charleston Crafts Gallery will be on display and available for purchase. The gallery boasts an incredible array of handmade items, including jewelry, wood puzzles, encaustic paintings, mixed media collages, fiber art, and many more fine crafts.

As Charleston’s go-to destination for fine crafts since 1989, the gallery is a proud community of over two dozen jury-selected artisans, making it the only exclusively local craft gallery in the area. If you’re looking for a way to celebrate fall, support local artisans, and find unique treasures, mark your calendars and swing by Charleston Crafts Gallery! Open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, this charming spot in the heart of the French Quarter is an experience you won’t soon forget.
