Seizure of Nearly Two Dozen Dogs from Mount Pleasant Residence

In a significant operation, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit seized more than twenty dogs on Thursday from a residence in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. This action was taken in response to a welfare check request concerning the likely mistreatment of these animals.

The deputies discovered several dogs tethered in deplorable conditions in the woods behind a house. Upon obtaining a custody order, they seized twenty-three Beagles, including five puppies, all of which are currently under the care of the Charleston Animal Society.

Health Condition of the Dogs

The dogs, currently under assessment for health conditions by the Charleston Animal Society, appear to be suffering from malnourishment and severe skin conditions. “The dogs were in a range of conditions. Some didn’t look too bad. Others were skinny, and a lot of them have really bad skin issues, including wounds, irritation, and hair loss,” Charleston Animal Society Vice President, Aldwin Roman stated.

Investigation Status and Subsequent Actions

As of Friday morning, no criminal charges have been filed; however, the investigation remains ongoing. A custody hearing is scheduled for the following Thursday to decide whether the Charleston Animal Society will continue looking after the dogs. Aldwin Roman expressed his sentiments about the resilience of these animals, noting that “dogs are so forgiving even when they’re abused; they still have this hopeful spirit and still have no judgment. These dogs are still loving, still wagging their tails, and still curious”.

Call for Adoption

The Charleston Animal Society is urging individuals to consider adopting dogs in order to create more space for others who need rescue and care. Information related to this ongoing investigation is being sought earnestly, and anyone with relevant data is asked to contact the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office directly via their official contact number, 843-202-1700.
